BREMERTON, Wash. - A woman was killed and a man was critically injured overnight when they were struck by a car while walking along a Kitsap County road in the darkness. The driver of the car was arrested at the scene.

Deputies and medics responded to the scene, in the 5500 block of Tracyton Boulevard NW, at about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a serious collision.

A 23-year-old woman was found dead at the scene. Her companion, a 25-year-old man, suffered critical injuries. Medics performed CPR on him until he could be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A preliminary investigation found that the two were walking along Tracyton Boulevard, just north of Bremerton, when they were struck by a 2010 Subaru Legacy with three people inside.

Deputies arrested the driver of the Subaru and booked him into Kitsap County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

Investigators are now trying to determine ! where the man and woman were walking when they were hit - whether they were on the shoulder or in the roadway.

The area where they were struck has no streetlights, which may have contributed to the crash.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.
