Train slams into car in Seattle, killing driver - KOMO News

SEATTLE -- A man was killed Friday evening when his car was hit by a train in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood.

The crash happened at about 5:45 p.m. near South Holgate Street and 3rd Avenue South.

Firefighters arrived on scene soon after the crash and were able to pull the driver from the mangled car.

The man, who is thought to be in his 30s, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, but he did not survive his injuries.

Witnesses told police the driver went around a lineup of cars stopped for the railroad crossing, then drove into the oncoming lanes. He was crossing the tracks when the train slammed into his car, according to police.

Traffic Collision detectives are on scene collecting witness statements and speaking with the train conductor.

South Holgate Street will be closed to traffic west of 3rd Avenue during the clean-up and investigation. Drivers are advised to find alternative routes in the area.
