A teenager has died and another person was seriously injured in an early morning car crash on Route 440 in Jersey City, local news outlets are reporting.
The car may have been involved in drag racing, 1010 WINS reports.
"I saw half a car," Saleem Salloum, 29, who works at nearby Wonder Bagels, told The Jersey Journal. "It looked like it was just split open."
A police officer told Salloum that the car hit a tree and split in half, Salloum said.
The crash, on Route 440 near Danforth Avenue, caused the two men in the car to be ejected from the vehicle, killing one and leaving the other in serious condition, according to CBS New York.
The teen who died is believed to have been the passenger in the car, according to News 12 New Jersey.
1010 WINS described the car as a compact low rider.
The 17-year-old driver of the car was treated at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health and is in stable condition, according to hospital officials.
