After abandoning her husband on the side of the Interstate, Tameka Moore allegedly returned to the location and struck Karl Moore, killing him instantly.
NORFOLK -- A man was struck and killed by a car apparently driven by his wife early Saturday morning in Norfolk.
According to a news release from Virginia State Police, they received a call regarding this accident just after midnight. They responded to the scene on I-64 eastbound near the 4th View exit.
Their initial investigation determined that the driver of the vehicle, identified as 36 year-old Tameka Moore (also known as Tameka Whitaker) of Chesapeake was traveling eastbound in a 2011 Volkswagen sedan with her husband, identified as 32 year-old Karl Moore, when an incident occurred between the two. Tameka Moore stopped the vehicle and Karl Moore got out of the car. She left him on the shoulder of the highway.
Then, after an undetermined amount of time, Tameka Moore returned to the location and struck Karl Moore, killing him instantly.
Tameka Moore was taken to Norfolk General Hospital where she was treated and released into police custody. She's been charged with DUI and refusal, and was taken to Norfolk City Jail
According to the VSP release, the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorneys Office, the Virginia State Police reconstruction team, and VSP Special Agents, with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, all responded to investigate the scene.
Once the investigation has been completed, the Commonwealth Attorney's Office will determine if more charges will be placed.
